Shadows of a Fallen World
The Nightbringers is an evil cult of Groetus who operates on the Shadow Plane. Not much is known about these worshipers of death and darkness, but they are known to occasionally gather in the city Thultanthar in the Thirsty Thief. They follow the doom of the Denied. The Denied states that Groetus wishes his followers to help him destroy the world.
Strangely the Nightbringers are only interested in bringing doom to the the Shadow Plane, and doesn’t seem to care about the Material World.
It is revealed by Morgost that the Nightbringers are responsible for the Grey Gauntlet’s destruction. Orin Katar was merely making up for an old favor. Zaros led the assault and personally murdered Amen Jorde.
Simon Goodchild, under the effect of speak with dead, further elaborates that the cult created the the Hourglasses many years ago, but they were scattered due to fighting. It is unclear what role the Tear of Pharasma has, but it is clear that the Hourglasses were made specifically with the Chained Statue in mind.
The Nightbringer cultists follow the doom of the Denied. The Denied states that Groetus wishes his followers to help him destroy the world. It is for this purpose that the Nightbringers captured Dammar the Denied by using the petrified shell of a primordial being. They took control of life and death on the Shadow Plane by forming an alliance with the psychopomp usher Mahathallah. Mahathallah took over Dammar’s responsibilities and used her minions to guard the Chained Statue. When their time is right, the cultists will kill everyone on the Shadow Plane with one fell swoop.
